THE BLUE BEDROOM
I often decorate through a cinematic lens, informed by my background in photography, cinematography, and color theory. Utilizing the points of natural light in a room allows me to construct a space as if it was the set of a film, I design my spaces to be photographed. After moving into an empty 1915 craftsman home in Portland, Oregon, I noticed that, just before sunset, my room flooded with pale blue light. The light reminded me of a room from a remake of Hitchcock’s Rebecca; the blue, haunting, ornate set design that constructed Rebecca’s bedroom. I was inspired by the way the set felt perpetually lit by twilight which led me to the creation of my Blue Bedroom. Glowing from within, this room became my sanctuary during my time in Portland.
